Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks is coming!

kometa 12P/Pons-BrooksAs spring begins to arrive, comet 12P/Pons-Brooks is becoming brighter and clearer for northern sky observers. It is now already visible with small telescopes and binoculars. As an object similar in many ways to the famous Halley's Comet, it may even be visible to the naked eye or be on the edge of that visibility in the coming weeks.

The image from the Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) service also shows two galaxies in the sky above the comet: the Andromeda (right) and Triangulum galaxies, which appear to surround the bright star Mirach in the constellation Andromeda.

is now less than 14 light minutes away. It will reach its perihelion on April 21.
