In this theoretically coldest and at the same time shortest month of the year, the day in the Krakow area will already be longer by more than hour and a half. The Sun, while still residing mainly in the southern hemisphere of the sky, is nevertheless steadily climbing higher and higher on the ecliptic, making the day significantly extended.

On 4 January, in its annual orbital motion, our Earth was closest to Our Star, i.e. at perihelion, at a distance of just over 147 million kilometres from the Sun. This is a comforting fact for us inhabitants of the northern hemisphere, because from now on, the day will be lengthening faster and faster. By January, the day will be already 67 minutes longer in the Lesser Poland region.
